Sorrento - Pool and Beach day

Five of us saw Pompei this morning - we got there early to avoid the heat of the day.
Robby stayed at the hotel, everyone else came from 830 - 1015 or so.
We all saw the forum, bathes, and  the house of mysteries, then everyone left and I saw everything else.

they've closed off lots of stuff, including the access to the top of the stadium (opening scene in pink floyd in pompei).
I quickly decided to hell with them, and found and easy way over their pathetic barriers and around back of the the stadium so I could get up top to take my pictures.
it looks like their barriers to the top of the stadium are 'permanant', at least as permanant as anything in this country can be.
most things in italy seem to fall apart if you look at them funny.

pompei has 3 things going for it -  the house of mysteries, the plaster casts of the victims, and the stadium.
they've closed off way too much of it, and they dont appear to be doing much if any restoration, they've just closed it cause they're understaffed and lazy.

here's where I went around the fence to the top of the other side of the stadium

I finished with around pompei at 12:15 and took the train to ercolanoarriving around 1pm.
herculaneum has a new visitor center, which is nothing impressive, and they've closed off more of it too,
but there are companies actively sponsoring restoration of different houses in herculaneum,
and there were about 15 archeologists actively working, gluing tiles back in place in mosaics, etc.

The supports are new since we were here in 2003, hopefully the won't let this thing crash into the dirt.

herculaneum is MUCH better overall, I really enjoy it.

got back to the room at about 4:30.
was watching tour de france, near the end I heard music.
there's a huge concert stage set up on the beach below us.
I turned down the tour, opened the window, stared out over the bay of naples, and listened.
They were playing Con te Partiro, it was really cool.
