Zermatt to Resy

09:38

Wednesday morning I followed Rick Steves' tour of Fourvière, the ancient hillside in Lyon that dates back to Roman times.
The Saône River with La Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière .

Lyon from the basilica.
I took the funicular up to the basilica and was wholly unimpressed.  The entire front of the museum was closed off due to construction, which certainly didn't help any.
The city isn't really tilted, I'm just to lazy to correct the picture.

10:30

Roman theater
I made my way over to the Roman Gallo Museum, which is next to the larger of the two Roman theaters.
The fire alarm sounded as I bought my ticket and they evacuated the building.
After about 10 minutes they let everyone back in.
Later I saw technicians repairing the fire alarm system in the middle of the museum.

I would have never found them without Rick Steves' book.
Even with the book they are very challenging to find and access.

I finished touring Lyon and had two hours to get to the next train to Zermatt.  It took nearly all of that to walk back toward my hotel, buy a train ticket at the small ticket SNCF office on the Belvedere plaza, get my backpack from the hotel, and take the subway back to the train station, all in scorching heat.
After another 5 hour train ride I arrived in Zermatt shortly after 8pm.

Meanwhile....

Kent climbed ZinalRothorn...

Kent's video of our trip

and Paul and Jed flew into Zurich.

Jed arrived first, but American lost his backpack and told him it would be delivered to our hotel in Zermatt the next day.
Jed texted us with the news
Paul arrived in Zermatt a few hours later and immediately found Jed's backpack.

Paul waited with the backpack in the customs area until Jed and his backpack were reunited.

Paul and Jed then spent a few hours in Thun on their way to Zermatt

I found Paul as I wandered Zermatt.  We found the Coop, which had closed for the day, then made our way over to the wonderful Hotel National.

FREE welcome drinks at the Hotel National!
