Stein am Rhein to Schaffhausen

I actually slept fairly well in the horrid bed at the Hotel Doomstein.  I showered and went for a walk, and finally realized I must be crazy for considering leaving this gorgeous place.  I could live here.  I suppose perhaps I'd feel differently in bad weather.

I slowly got ready and finally boarded the gondola back up Monte Moro pass.
The weather was supposed to change with a 50% chance of rain later today, and I did not weant to hike in the rain again.

The hike downhill was of course easier than the hike uphill yesterday and I was soon back at Mattmark waiting for the bus to take me down to Visp.
I chugged a beer at the cafe then boarded the very crowded bus at about 1:30pm
When I arrived in Visp I was amazed at how hot it was.
The entire country was in a heat wave.

I caught the 2:57 train from Visp to Frauenfeld.

In Thun I had two minutes to retrieve the rest of my luggage while the train was stopped.
I managed to run from the train, run downstairs and back upstairs to the main station area, quickly deposit 8 francs in my locker, retrieve the rest of my belongings, and race downstairs, upstairs, and back to the train, only to have the train doors fail to open when I pushed the button.
I walked up a few train cars pushing door open buttons emphatically - if I missed reboarding this train I'd get to sit around another 30 minutes waiting for the next one - not a huge problem, but I didn't need to add to my 5 hour bus and train journey from the southern border of Switzerland to the northern border.
Finally the train doors opened.
I assume the engineer or conductor saw the door open lights go off realized someone wanted to board and unlocked the train for me since it was still at the station.
That was an exciting three minutes...

Paul and Jed arrived in Stein am Rhein a few hours before I did.
They checked out 8 different hotels before selecting the Hotel Adler.
That's about 6 or 7 more hotels than I would have checked...

When I finally got to Stein am Rhein at 6:30 I was floored at how hot it was.
I dragged all my stuff to the Hotel Adler and found Paul and Jed wandering the town.

Paul arranged to rent a canoe the next day over the phone.
We wandered town looking for a cheap and/or good place to eat.
Finally we found a stand up cafe, the only cheap place in town to eat

We noticed signs all over town for an outdoor concert.
Paul asked the hotel staff if there was a concert that evening and we were assured there was no concert.
Late that night we were treated to an outdoor concert staged right outside our room.
We needed to keep the windows open because it was sweltering.
Fortunately our room was an end room and had windows on both sides of the room, allowing a cross breeze through the room.

Meanwhile...
Kent summited Pollux.  With two huge summits on this trip Kent was on cloud 9.
