Driving from Mammoth Mountain to Tuolumne Meadows and Back

I had been excited for weeks about driving the Celica to Mammoth, but the trunk is so small I decided Thursday night that I'd better drive one of the Camrys.  Major road trip downer.

I picked up Jed at SFO just before 5pm.  Fortunately his backpack arrived with him, and soon we were on our way to Mammoth.  I hoped that most of the Labor Day weekend traffic would leave the Bay Area early on Friday afternoon, leaving lighter traffic for us to deal with.  It was the easiest time I've ever had leaving the Bay Area on any Friday.  Jed was amazed when I kept telling him how easy the traffic was.

We stopped in Tuolumne Meadows around 11:30pm or so for a few minutes.  It was dark like city folk forget it can be so dark, and I saw a meteorite as soon as I got out of the car!

We finally got to the Quality Inn in Mammoth Mountain around 12:30am Saturday.  Our room reeked an awful smell so we switched to another room that was only marginally better.  Do not ever stay at the Quality Inn in Mammoth Mountain, it is a hellhole.
