Camping at Tuolumne Meadows

We decided to see June Lake Thursday morning before we went home.
I'd only been on this loop once many many years ago.

Kent and Jed did a little souvenir shopping in Lee Vining to buy something for their kids.
My kids are too old for that kind of thing now.
Then we said goodbye to Kent, who drove east back home, and Jed and I drove west up Tioga Pass, where I kidnapped Jed.
I had been go, go, going like crazy for days.
I really wanted a nice relaxing day of camping, and I had a permit for Tuolumne Meadows campground.
Jed and I found a great campsite, then we found the excellent beer selection at the Tuolumne Meadows store.
Jed introduced me to Dirty Hippy from Kern River Brewing - very yummy
We spent the afternoon relaxing and reading.
Jed commented that he didn't remember the last time he was able to relax all afternoon.

We grabbed dinner at the grill and had a picnic across the street

We finished off a great day camping by watching an entertaining Ranger give a fun campfire program

Friday we drove home.
Early Saturday I dropped Jed off at SFO ....

We'd gotten really lucky.
We'd heard from somone on the trail that a few days ago it had been so windy you couldn't set up a tent.
The week after we returned it snowed in the high country!

Final numbers:

Net distance from Red's Meadow to Toulumne Meadows on the JMT 37.9 miles
Our total distance hiked due to floundering up Minaret Canyon 45.3 miles

Total length of the JMT 210.4 miles
Jed and Kent have completed 37.9 miles or 18.01% of the JMT, and they have 172.5 miles to go
I have completed a total of 63.6 miles or 30.23% of the JMT, all at the ends of the trail:
- from Happy Isles to Red's Meadow
- from Trail Crest to Mount Whitney
I have 146.8 miles to go....
