Labor Day Weekend for
me means backpacking in the Sierra Nevadas.
To backpack the John Muir Trail starting in Devil's Postpile you need
to get a permit that's offered exactly six months in advance, and
permits for popular days are gone seconds after they become available.
In early January 2019 I started to try to figure out which exact day
later that winter I'd need to try to book permits to hike the John Muir
Trail over Labor Day weekend.
While poking around recreation.gov I managed to get the website to sell
me a permit when I'm pretty sure permits were not supposed to be
available.
I asked the guys if anyone wanted to come backpacking, and Ray quickly
agreed.
