I'd climbed 3 of the 4 rides I wanted to climb out of Martigny, I was due another rest day...
I took the train to Lausanne to climb up and down the steep city.
Not exactly a rest day...

I got off the train, took the Metro up to Old Town and followed the Rick Steves walk

The old town was the nicest part of Lausanne, there was a couple singing in the street for tourist tips...
But old town was only a relatively short stretch, the rest of it just felt like another city to me..

The Painted Portal of the Cathedral

Outside the cathedral were signs for the archeology museum.
I followed the signs to the archeology museum and ended up outside to the Palais du Rumine
It was market day, or rather, garage sale day.

The museum is free, the attendent gives you a sticker to put on your shirt.
Unfortunately there are only French descriptions

I later determined that Rick's walking tour ends at Palais du Rumine, he approaches from a different direction.
Rick tells you about the free WCs inside the Palais and says the Palais has a "couple of skippable museums"
Pretty lazy to not even list what museum he doesn't think you'd be interested in...

The museum has local artifacts dating back over 5000 years...

According to wikipedia:
Jean-Abram Noverraz was a footman to Emperor Napolean, and he accompaniad him to the island of Saint Helena.
When Napolean died, he gave Noverraz many items to be given to Napolean's son.
Unable to do so, those items, along with lots of other Napolean related stuff like one of a couple dozen Napolean death masks, ended up here

Dusty: Laussane has a nice old town and is pretty, but it is also just another crowded city..
Dusty: I skipped the lakefront, couldn't care less about an Olympic museum....

18:37 Europe time 09:37 California time
Kent: I enjoyed the carvings in the church there most
Kent:  It was a torrential alp storm, so spent most of my time in the covered stairways investigating the tags and spotting wild animals

18:39 Europe time 09:39 California time
Dusty: Church was fine but i am spoiled, i didn't look at the carvings there..
Dusty: i did stare at the woodwork in Sion, you'd think it was completed last week, it is all immaculate...

18:42 Europe time 09:42 California time
Dusty: I honestly had no idea that humans in Europe made stuff this good 4000-5000 years ago..
Dusty: who'd have known (other than Kent!)

18:48 Europe time 09:48 California time
Kent: That stuff is incredible
Kent:  Way way before Romans
Kent:  They were doing grapes back then too!
