Our last day in Italy – how depressing! We were tired. As I had suspected, spending two days in Florence and one in
Siena was a bit much. While I was sad to leave, I was also ready to be home. I just wasn’t looking forward to all the driving and flying.
Bob and Karin went out early for espresso and bought Karin a grandchild present. Bob couldn’t stop telling us how glad he was that we’d gone to Sienna.
We left Siena uneventfully – our directions out of town and to the autostrada were perfect. Once I sanity checked the map I realized that getting to the airport hotel would take about 5 hours, not the 3 I’d planned on. No matter, we had all day. The kids played gameboy while the rest of us watched the countryside.
The Hotel Mach 2 was fine, and we found it easily. Our 4 person room was actually a suite, which was a pleasant surprise. Only twice did a plane take off on the runway directly overhead – it sounded like it was in our room.
I drove to the airport to return the ‘bus’, taking a picture of it before leaving the hotel. Once at the airport I ran into a bit of a problem. The rental car return for Maggiore is in Garage 3 & 4. This garage is only 2 meters high, and our ‘bus’ was just over 2 meters high. I managed to find a nearby lot for airport vehicles, found the rental car return, and had one of their drivers take the vehicle away.
By the time I got rid of the ‘bus’ Kathy had investigated our dinner possibilities: a snack bar next door that closed at 6:30, or a hotel restaurant with a poor menu that opened at 6:30. We chose the snack bar.
Fuimicino is not a very entertaining place.
