Amsterdam to Paris

It would be silly to visit the Netherlands without seeing a windmill.
The nearest windmills to Amsterdam are a 20 minute trainride away in Zaanse Schans, a very touristy open air museum.
There wasn't too much to see, and many of the shops were closed since it was Monday and we were there in off season.
Each windmill gets 4 euros to visit, so we only went in one - they seemed to be quite similar....
We chose 'The Kat', which crushes colored chalk for use marking lines on sportsfields.

By the 1950s they had dismantled just about every windmill in the Netherlands, these were all reconstructed.

We had fries for lunch - they were fantastic and very filling.
After lunch Kathy took a nap while I went to the Rome display at the New Church, then went for a walk around town.
The Rome display was absurdly overpriced (17 euros, but covered by our passes) and had lots of non-authentic displays.

Some sort of festival was starting but we never asked what the event was.
Online searches show both a music and dance festival for that time period.

For dinner we had the salad bar at the De Jaren Cafe - it was an excellent meal.
Later we wondered around and found a red carpet event of some sort.
