I woke up in
Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne and was facing a very long day on trains to get to Martigny...
I got on the
717 train to Chambéry-Challes-les-Eaux,
then the
922 connection in Chambéry-Challes-les-Eaux
to Annecy, then the
1032 connection to Annecy to
La Roche-sur-Foron

First beer of the day in Chambery.
While I was in route
Kent rented room 605 in the Hotel Alps Rhone in Martigny
We were promised a great view of fireworks!
Kent skated over to Fully where they produce a great white wine
My bus connection to
St-Gervais-les-Bains-le-Fayet was 15m late departing
and 30m late arriving..
There were several flounders in control room at station, they had to
look up on the schedule how
to get to Chamonix....
Girl at desk then told me the bus had already left, which I found
incredible since I hadn't seen a bus leave..
A few minutes later she chased me down to tell me I needed to catch the
bus and
it was late and I hadn't missed it yet, which was nice of her...
If the weather on Mt Blanc was clear, I planned to take the lift up
Brevard to take pictures of Mt Blanc.
However I knew the weather was likely to be unsettled so I didn't get
my hopes up.
When I first saw Mt
Blanc on the bus to St-Gervais-les-Bains-le-Fayet
there were only a few high
clouds, but you could tell they were likely to grow quickly... and they
did.
Mt Blanc from the bus, in the clouds, the only way I've ever seen it...
Fortunately I've had better luck in other parts of the Alps

Within the next hour or
so there were lots of clouds, no great picture
taking.
I decided to continue on to Martigny without stopping in Chamonix.
It was 340pm by the time I got to
Martigny, then made the slog down the hotel. I met Kent!

The we went to the museum to see the Cezanne exhibit.
I was impressed, I'd enjoyed Cezanne somewhat before but they had some
nice paintings.

After the musem we went into town to see the party.
We found somewhat reasonable food options to help offset the beer.
After a fair amount of beer and wine Kent suggested we go back to the room for a break....thank god, I was dead tired.
