Florence

I'd seen the Forum and the Coluseum in 2003 and 2012, so in a way it felt silly to see them again.

OTOH I LOVE ancient Rome and couldn't imagine skipping the heart of Rome when I was in the ancient city, so...I walked over to the Forum.

On the way I saw Largo di Torre Argentina

Ceasar was killed at Pompey's Theatre, located in this square.

Palatine Hill is such an essential part of history I really wanted to see it, but it was awful - the very few sites on the hill were all closed & the signage was useless.

I'd seen it once before in 2012, at least in 2012 the House of Livia was open.

The only reason to go up Palatine Hill was to see the view of the Forum and the rest of Rome.

From the Palatine Hill I could see the Baths of Caracalla in the distance so I decided to make the hike...

The Baths were interesting and very well signed in English.  They may not be worth the walk unless you really love Ancient Rome, but I enjoyed them.

There was nothing to see at the Circus Maximus except a great view of Palatine Hill.

I took a much needed break back at the hotel for a little while.
I also used tripadvisor and booking.com booked a cheap room one person room in the heart Florence for tomorrow night.

I went back to Osteria Delle Coppelle but it was empty and they didn't start serving dinner until 730pm, and I had an 830pm appointment at the Vatican Museum.
Reluctantly I took the easy route and ate at Miscellanea again.
I was too tired to look for another place to eat, and I had a long evening of Vatican Museum walking ahead of me.

The Sistine Chapel and everything at the Vatican arguably looked better at night without direct sunlight.
