Ray: Paul - yes - I did the Idyllwyld to Jacinto summit hike
Ray: It's kinda burly
Ray: There's a stsrt that's even lower if you want.
00:17 Europe time 15:17 California time
Paul: There's a start in Palm Desert that makes the hike over 10K climb
vertical
Paul: Insane
Paul: We're looking at that slightly lower starting point (Deer
Springs) that makes the vertical about 5K and making the top part into
a loop

Ray: I was bummed I didn't do that start
Ray: I would've if I'd known about it in time - it would not be that
much tougher
Ray: The 10k elevation can be had in a 15-mile hike called Cactus to
Clouds
Ray: I haven't ruled it out yet for a someday hike
Ray: Today I climbed about 400 feet up the Freeway, the cool class
4/5.0 route on the 2nd Flatiron, before having to bail due to storm
Ray: My goal was to nail "the bulge," which is the crux of the whole
route and which I skipped last year by going to the right where you can
see most of the folks going up in the picture
Ray: The guy in the middle of the shot is doing the Bulge, which I
bagged without too much problem
Ray: It is rated as a 5.0 on Mountain Project but the rest is class 4
as long as you're on route
Ray: Girls are going shopping tomorrow
Ray: I'm not sure what I'm doing

Paul: I got out for a small hike today, but went to watch Tays Pop
Warner practice so I couldn't do much of a hike
Paul: I did, however run up the stairs at the football stadium maybe 30
times
Paul: My AllTrails recording of it was kinda funny.....

Dusty: Now do obscene shapes
07:18 Europe time 22:18 California time
Paul: I thought that same thing
Paul: Can I spell #$@# next time?

Dusty: You are free to use your creative license
Dusty: Knowing of course that the panel will be awarding scores on a
variety of factors

Paul: On my short hike I did happen upon a strange scene at the peak...
Kent: Hanging at the kreuzboden restraunt.
Drinking some coffee.
I considered hiking all the way down until I felt my legs leaving the
hut.
Too sore.
Weather seems cooler today, and way more clouds.
Dusty: I am assuming afternoon thunderstorms and wind since that snow
what my forecast promises.
Quick free sit down breakfast :)
Now on lift to Belvedere again.
Much cheaper on this side of the border.
Also much closer to a 3rd world country.
Gotta love Italy, everyone is way friendly.

I started bushwacking to find a nice place to spend the day waiting for the clouds to clear.

Blocked off trail warning of imminent death.
This trail doesn't appear on any of the online maps I've got of the area.

Finally I found a nice vantage point, nice enough they placed the webcam here.
Everyone else that rode the lift up hiked the trail up the moraine, they looked like ants from up here.
I could see Rifugio Zamboni Zappa CAI in the distance, I had about zero
desire to hike any further, I could see plenty from here.

First liter of beer for the day with lunch
pasta alla macugnaghese

Filling but not a gut bomb.
I watched the clouds around the mountains some more, then headed down around 3pm when I could hear thunder in the distance.

It rained lightly a few times but never for long and I never got wet.
Back to La Locanda to watch the mountains while eat dinner.
Most tender baby dead cow ever - veal milanese with local sauted vegatables, never had it
before
And my 2nd liter of beer for the day.
Found out that yesterday I had ordered from the lunch menu, tonight is dinner.
Trout is on both, baby dead cow is dinner only.
Baby dead cow for the win!
The waiter pointed out fresh snow on the mountains, I would never have noticed.
