Rafting the Merced
|
This year we again Dusty decided spend
a week camping in Yosemite and the rest of the family hesitantly went
along with it. We'd never been camping for more than 3 days
before, and there was considerable apprehension about living in the
outdoors for so long. The key to camping is being able to shower
every day, and I know where to steal (or heaven forbid buy) a shower
both in the Valley and in Tuolumne.
I got reservations for Friday and Saturday night Aug 1 and 2 at two
different
campsites when July and August opened up back in March.
Everything else sold out on that day. I kept checking back, and
picked up reservations one day at a time. On Tuesday May 19
I managed to get a reservation back in Upper Pines for Thurs Aug 6 -
Sun Aug 9. I immediately started planning to hike the John Muir
Trail from Tuolumne Meadows back to Upper Pines on Thursday Aug
6. I had always wanted to hike the JMT, and I figure this may be
the only chance I get to hike any lengthy portion of it. I hoped
Ray and Kent would join me on the hike, but it was
not to be - Ray booked rooms at the Ahwanee for Wednesday and Thursday
night.
Ray, Amy, Annabelle, and Sophie met us in Tuolumne Meadows, and we
spent a couple of days camping with the Stern Silverman clan.
