In February I managed to get what were probably the last available campground reservations in Yosemite Valley for the July 15-August 15 timeframe for my family and in-laws.  We reserved August 12-15 in Upper Pines.  In July my friend Kent Dodge asked if anyone wanted to head to the east side of the Sierra Nevada from August 15 to August 20.  I was elated, since I'd already be there.
